SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Douwe Eisses is a Dutch 20 year old student at the Mozarteum Salzburg. He is in his 2nd year of his bachelor studies Cello with Professor G. Gnocchi. Douwe is playing cello since he was 4 years old. He started having lessons first with Wiesje van Eersel and later with Matthijs Broersma in the Young Talent Class at the Conservatory The Hague in the Netherlands.
Douwe joined several competitions and has won prices at the Prinses Christina Competition, Britten Cello Competition and won the first prize at the International competition for young musicians in Ljubljana last year.
He likes to have masterclasses with different cellists, therefore he had masterclasses with Pieter Wispelwey, Gregor Horsch, Torleif Thedéen, Jakob Koranyi, László Fenyö, Larissa Groeneveld, Harro Ruijsenaars, Johan van Iersel and Giovanni Gnocchi .
Besides playing as a soloist Douwe very much likes to play in orchestra. He has played in several youth orchestras. The last 6 years as the principal cellist in Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands and also 3 years in “young Strings Amsterdam”. With this orchestra he played also the Vivaldi double concerto as a soloist in Concertgebouw Amsterdam. With Youth Orhestra Netherlands he has made concerttours to Czech Republic, Italy, Germany and Luxembourg
Douwe is lucky to play on a cello that belongs to the Dutch National foundation for musical instruments. He plays on a cello of an anonymous luthier, out of 1865.
