SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Yoo-Jin Gabriel Hirsch, born in 2005, began his first cello lessons at the age of 4. He went on to win numerous first prizes at the Jugend Musiziert competition. In 2013, he also won a Förderpreis (promotion prize) at the national Carl-Schröder competition in Sondershausen.
At the age of 9, Yoo-Jin Gabriel Hirsch was accepted as a junior student at the Karlsruhe University of Music, where he has been studying with Prof. László Fenyö ever since. During his first year as a junior student, he made his debut as a soloist with the university orchestra.
In 2016, Yoo-Jin won 3rd prize at the international Dotzauer Competition, despite voluntarily competing in an older age group. In 2017, he participated in the X. International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Kazakhstan.
At the Carl-Flesch Academy in Baden-Baden, he attended his first masterclass with Prof. Wolfgang Böttcher. There, he performed as a soloist with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and was awarded the Ruth-Flesch Memorial Prize.
In 2018, Yoo-Jin reached the semifinals of the 10th International Karl Davidoff Competition in Kuldiga, Latvia.
At the age of 13, Yoo-Jin was appointed principal cellist of the cello section in the Rheinland-Pfalz State Youth Orchestra.
Yoo-Jin won both a 1st and a 2nd national prize at Jugend Musiziert and has been a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra (Bundesjugendorchester) since 2021.
2023 Yoo-Jin Hirsch won the „Bruno-Herrmann“ Prize and played two concerts with orchestra.
Since 2024 he is studying with Prof. Peter Bruns in Leipzig.
He has participated in numerous masterclasses, including those with Prof. Maria Egelhof, the Mandelring Quartet, Prof. Philippe Muller, Prof. Wolfgang Böttcher, and Prof. Leonid Gorokhov.
