SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Augustas Gocentas is a Lithuanian cellist born into a family of musicians in Vilnius. He began his musical journey in 2004 at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, where he studied cello under Ramutė Kalnėnaitė. In addition, he studied piano at the same school for 11 years. In 2024, he completed a Master's degree in Cello Performance at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Prof. Martti Rousi. During the 2019/2020 academic year, Augustas participated in an exchange program, studying with Prof. Reinhard Latzko at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, Austria.
Augustas is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO). He has performed with the Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra, the Baltic Sea Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra composed of students from the Sibelius and Juilliard Schools, and, in 2022, won an apprenticeship program with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2024, Augustas secured a position as cello tutti with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra. Since 2017, Augustas has played J. Haydn's C Major Cello Concerto with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the Saint Christopher Orchestra, E. Lalo's Cello Concerto with the Romania Youth Orchestra, and E. Elgar's Cello Concerto with the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has also performed F. Gulda's Cello Concerto with the Sibelius Academy Winds Band and the Palangos Winds Band.
Since moving to Finland, Augustas has been invited to numerous festivals, including the Encuentro de Santander (Spain) twice, "European Music Trails" (Germany, Lithuania) twice, the Moritzburg Festival, the "Super Cello" Festival (Beijing), the "Cello Festival" (Qingdao), and the EUYO 2021 Summer Project. He has also won several competitions, including the 9th A. Dambrovsky Competition in Latvia, where he received a special prize for his interpretation of the obligatory piece, and the 10th K. Davydov Competition, also in Latvia.
